世界のテマリスト プラハ編 ☆ TEMARIST - Christina from Prague

Dear Temarist, Christina,

Thank you for sending us your pretty photos and your introduction in Japanese. Temaricious wants to meet you in Prague sometime soon! Keep in touch.

Christina Sommerova
Prague, Czech Republic

Since I was small, I liked making various things by hands.

When I stared studying Japanese, I found Origami, Amigurumi, and Temari on the internet by coincidence. Since the first look, I found Temari very beautiful and I rush to try it.

Although it is similar to European embroidery, geometric patterns of Temari attract me. Flowers, stars, and abstract... It could be colourful or monochrome, modern or traditional.

I love making creative Temari and I've already finished 20 Temaris and I will make more in near future. It is a very good gift for family and friends.

Temari Base

How have you been?
It's still really hot in Tokyo. We're preparing for workshops!

Just to show off how cute temari bases are:-)  In the workshop, you can choose your favourite one to stitch!

How come is it so round like a ball by only hands?

It's a typical first question when I show temari to my friends.
My answer is simply yes, it somehow becomes a round ball!

We usually use rice husk as a core materials for temari base put some dry herbs like lavenders or rosemarry and aroma oil at home.

And use thin light paper like a tissue or clothe wrapping paper to wrap rice husks.

Hold carefully and start winding by temaricious base threads. It's finer than the temaricious stitching threads/floss and cotton 100%.

As you gradually make a ball, try to make nicer and  flatter by pushing or grabbing by hands. I call this practice as in making a rice ball, onigiri.

Ideal temari base is like a melon mesh! threads cross each other irregularly.

And at the last process of winding, you finally put tention to make a base a bit harder.
Temaricious base threads become glossy in the end. It's simply beautiful.

It's a meditation excise to make a temari base indeed. Play with colours and nature.

Round or circle is considered 'wa (和)' in Japanese and there is no start and no end. No up and down. Just peace and harmony:-)  Please experience temari making with us.
It's much easier if we can advise you directly about tips of temari making.

For workshop inquiry, please directly contact to shop and association.

See you in Berlin, Prague and London soon!

Indigo Summer!

What Summer brings to Temaricious is fresh indigo dyeing work.

Japanese indigo (TADE AI) seeds are born in the small Tokyo garden last year and brought to Tochigi farm in Spring and then look at this amazing indigo field in July:-))
Thank you for Mr. I. He has indigo fingers definitely!

Our indigo dyeing day was busy!

Cut indigo from the field and pick fresh leaves only. Then chop indigo leaves into small pieces (mixer can help you), then squeeze indigo juice out for a while. When green indigo smoothie is ready, you put wet raw threads into it. Then stir threads in it and wait for a while. Then wash threads with fresh water and then green threads change into bluuuuueee!! As you swing it in a circle in the air many times, threads become blue. It's a speechless experience to see this colour change. It must be a chemical reaction but for me it is just a magic of nature....

We see the blue part from the green leaves when indigo leaves are damaged or eaten and rain sometimes makes blue water drops on the leaves. It's such a mysterious scenery to watch.

Indigo loves water when they are growing. Japanese rainy season in June is really for indigo not for busy Tokyo people otherwise!

This indigo blue like a summer sky and water fascinates you soon!!

Enjoy your summer!

Don't forget to join our workshop:-)
